We report a facile and highly reproducible method for preparing smart surfaces with mechanically switchable optical and wetting properties, which combines replica molding with nanoporous AAO templates and reversible wrinkling process. The unusual switching between transparent/water-pinned (or water-rolling) and translucent/water-rolling state is mainly derived from the light scattering and discontinuous TCL due to micro-scale roughness tuned by the mechanical strain. Our approach will open up new avenues for smart windows involving self-cleaning and antireflective properties, which will also lead to other potential applications such as microfluidic devices, biosensors, and drag-reducing coatings. |
