The effect of the static bending persistence length on the thermal conductivities of MWNT/EG dispersions |

Thermal conductivity of dielectric media containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is becoming more and more important in various engineering applications as in thermal management materials and heat transfer lubricants. It has been reported that thermal conductivity of dielectric media containing CNTs depends on the aspect ratio of CNTs. However, as-synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) have both straight rigid portion and static bending portion. Therefore, a concept of the static bending persistence length (lp), which is a statistical quantity representing the maximum straight length that is not bent by static bending, must have influence on the thermal conductivity of dielectric media containing MWNTs. In this light, we chose six different kinds of MWNTs synthesized by different methods to investigate the effect of their lp on the thermal conductivity of ethylene glycol(EG) media wherein MWNTs are dispersed. |
