Amine-containing solid adsorbents for carbon dioxide (CO2) have been investigated as potential alternatives since they are not corrosive to reactor, lower amine loss and consumption energy unlike liquid adsorbents. The common process needs volatile organic solvent such as methanol, toluene, and chloroform, however, we used tap water as solvent and coated the polyethylenimine (PEI) on the fumed silica using impregnation method. The results show that samples with PEI loadings of 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% have CO2 adsorption amounts of 26.55 mg, 43.67 mg, 55.12, 59.38 mg per gram, respectively. The higher loading amounts of samples have the higher CO2 adsorption and still high surface area. PEI coated on silica contributes to mesoporous structure and mesopores are filled with PEI when loading amounts increase. |
