Synthetic resins are widely used in industry, commodities, and biomedical field because they possess good formability, mechanical strength, and cost-effectiveness when properly cured by heat or light. However, irreversible hardening process often causes significant problems such as brittleness, formation of permanent defects, and dimensional shrinkage, etc. In order to overcome these traditional drawbacks of synthetic resins, various types of polyrotaxane cross-linkers were synthesized and added to the synthetic resins during cruing process. Polyrotaxane is a supermolecule composed of a ring-shape host molecule, e.g. a-cyclodextrin, threaded on a linear guest molecule, e.g. poly(ethylene glycol). In this presenatation, the designing strategies of polyrotaxane cross-linkers for overcoming linitation of the mechanical properties of the traditional synthetic resins, such as acrylic, epoxy, and silicone resins, will be introduced. |
