The competition between the interchain interaction and the polymer chain-solvent interaction is the determining factor of polymer solubility. For this reason, the transition behavior of thermo-responsive polymer in solution is strongly affected by the polymer structure. In particular, the functional group present at the end of the polymer plays a key role to control the physiochemical properties of the polymer with low molecular weight. In this study, we report the synthesis and thermo-responsive behavior of poly(ether sulfone) (PES) with modified chain end. The PES of controlled molecular weight with a narrow polydispersity index were synthesized via chain-growth condensation polymerization method by using the allyloxy group containing initiator. The allyloxy end group of PES allows further functionalization via thiol-ene click reaction without side reactions such as trans-etherification. The Tcp change according to the end functional group of the polymer chains was investigated. |
