Effect of oxyfluorination on PTC/NTC behaviors of multi-walled carbon nanotubes-filled HDPE polymeric switch |

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were embedded into molten high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to improve the electrical properties of HDPE polymeric switch. The surfaces of these MWCNTs were modified using the oxyfluorination treatment to improve their positive temperature coefficient (PTC) and negative temperature coefficient (NTC) behaviors in HDPE polymeric switch. The maximum volume resistivity value of OF3-PS (F2:O2 = 3:7 oxyfluorinated MWCNTs embedded HDPE polymeric switch) sample shows 4.3 ohmcm which is highest in all samples. It is believed that the introduced oxygen functional groups hold the electrons and make electron mobility slow among the MWCNT particles, and so the electrical conductivity of oxyfluorinated samples decrease. PTC behavior of HDPE polymeric switch is finally increased by oxyfluorination. Also, the introduction of fluorine on the MWCNTs surface led to a weakly of NTC behavior of ones. |
