Plastic waste is a serious problem that has been steadily discussed for years. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste has a large portion of plastic waste and PET depolymerization studies have been actively conducted due to their structural benefit. Glycolysis is one of the chemical upcycling processes of PET, which produces bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) as a raw material for PET recycling. Iron-based catalysts, especially spinel ferrite, are an attractive choice due to their low cost and magnetic property for simple separation. In this work, spinel ferrites with several metal components were synthesized and applied to PET glycolysis to confirm their catalytic effects. |
