This research provides various synthetic approaches to the development of novel photonic materials possessing enhanced response based on Lewis acidic properties of o-carborane cages. Firstly, the o-carborane cages which possess high electron–withdrawing ability and high stability were combined with the triarylborane sensors so as to increase both the Lewis acidity. Secondly, we could report the observation of the unprecedented electron‒accepting properties of a 1,3,5-tris-o-caboranyl benzene compound, together with DFT calculations. Finally, p-terphenyl, biphenyl and fluorene based luminescent o-carborane compounds are designed and synthesized. Consequently, carborane based new photonic materials will be first pursued and then the characteristics of such materials can be commonly applied to the photonic devices. |
