One of the obstructions in proceesing of polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) nanocomposite is that commercially available organoclay decomposes at the temperature below the processing temperature of PEN. In this study, thermally stable organically modified mica was used to prepare PEN nanocomposite by a melt intercalation in batch mixer. To characterize structure of the nanocomposite XRD, SEM, and rheometry analyses were performed. Thermal properties were measured by TGA and DSC. It was found that understanding of high temperature reaction between PEN organically modified mica is necessary to process the PEN nanocomposite without degradation. |
