Chitosan coated-magnetic nanoparticles containing large content of amine groups were prepared by step-wise modification method using melamine and p-phenyldiisocyanate as bridging units. Nanoparticles were characterized by XRD, TEM, FTIR and TEM, SEM analyses. The adsorption of Pb(II) ions was examined by batch equilibrium technique. The effects of pH, initial Pb(II) concentration, and contact time on the efficiency of Pb(II) removal were studied. The magnetic adsorbent can be easily separated from aqueous solution by a magnet. Repeated adsorption acid regeneration cycles were performed to examine the stability and reusability of the magnetic adsorbent. The result of this study proved high stability and reusability of prepared adsorbent for Pb(II) ions. The high adsorption of Pb(II) was observed due to the presence of more number metal binding nitrogen sites in the adsorbent considered a promising adsorbent for repetitively removing heavy metal ions from environmental water samples. |
