Fluorescein containing polymer for Luminescence Conversion LEDs |

We have synthesized low molecular weight polyesters containing Fluorescein units, exhibiting bright yellow fluorescence. Both poly (fluoresceinyl terephthalate) (PFT) and benzoyl protected poly (fluoresceinyl terephthalate) (PFT-B) were soluble in most of the organic polar solvents. The onset degradation temperature of PFT and PFT-B were higher than that of the Fluorescein dye. When a NaOH solution was added, fluorescence efficiency was highly increased. The PFT-B salts exhibit significantly enhanced fluorescence emission, compared to the neutral form. The enhanced emission is attributed to the extended conjugation length of the salt form. PMMA films containing the fluorescein salt were prepared via in-situ polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of the fluorescein salt dissolved in DMF. The photoluminescence (PL) and thermal stability (DSC, TGA) of the resulting films will be presented in detail. |
