In this study, swelling behaviors of Nafion in ternary systems were observed and its theoretical prediction model was proposed. Various ternary systems of Nafion117 / alcohols with methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol, in which Nafion's solvent uptake in wide range of temperature form close to freezing points up to boiling points were measured. Swelling ratios were increased in respect to exposure temperatures, but not linearly proportional to binary mixture solvent compositions. These swelling behaviors were predicted by modified double lattice model, based on Flory-Huggins theory. |
