Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) is comprised of ion exchange membrane and noble metal electrodes. It has light weight and shows large displacement in low voltage. For these reasons, IPMC can be applied in biomedical research such as micro actuator and mechanical bending sensor. Theoretically, IPMC is performed as actuator in presence of electric field, and as bending motion sensor when mechanical deformation is applied. Due to its small and simple shape, IPMC actuator and sensor can be easily hybridized into one body structure, which is useful for motion sensing system or artificial muscle application. In this research, we designed various types of IPMC actuator-sensor hybrid system. Also we verified its electrochemical properties and confirmed compatible interaction between IPMC actuator and sensor. |
