Lead based perovskites have been recently shown to be very promising for use in solar cells and devices based on these materials have now the remarkable solar to electricity power conversion efficiency (PCE) record of 22.1 %in only six years. Despite this great success in efficiency of these solar cells, the toxicity of lead may be an issue in particular for large scale use. BiI3 has mainly been used in other application areas, and it specifically possess promising properties for room temperature gamma-ray detectors because of the high bulk density and high atomic number. In this work, we investigate bismuth triiodide (BiI3) as a candidate thin-film photovoltaic absorber layer. |
