Synthesis and application of coupling agents ; Formulation and analysis of silica-rubber composites |

In the silica tires with high performance (rolling resistance and wet grip), the Si-69 (coupling agent) is a key material as a binder between silica (inorganic) and rubber (organic). However, there is a disadvantage for the removal of salts formed in the synthesis of Si69 under inert condition. So the new coupling agents were synthesized by several step reactions of olefins such as cyclopentadiene and norbonene with trichlorosilane, alcohol, and sulfur, and used to prepare silica-rubber composites. The properties of those composites were measured by Oscillating Disc Rheometer, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis and Universal Testing Machine. The composites using new coupling agent were better mechanical properties than that using Si-69: higher tan δ at 0 ℃ (tan δt = 0), lower tan δ at 60 ℃ (tan δt = 60) and higher tensile stress at 100% and 300% strain. I will discuss the synthesis of coupling agents and properties of silica composites in details. |
