Oriented Crystallization of Various Metals on the Surface of Graphene |

We report epitaxy behavior of various inorganics including Ni, Cu, Au, Pt, Fe on the surface of graphite flake and large area graphene synthesized by chemical vapor deposition. Target metals were thermally evaporated on the graphitic surface and then additionally thermal annealed to induce the crystallization of deposited metal films. Our observation using EBSD and TEM reveals that deposited metals are crystallized with the preferred crystalline direction to relax the stress from the lattice misfit between graphitic surface and metals. And it seems that the shape and size of metal domains are influenced by the those of underlying graphitic materials. We believe that our investigation will bring an insight to use graphene as a new epitaxy substrate and to control the thickness of growing graphene during CVD using Ni. |
