Integration of 2D graphene sheets into macroscopic architectures such as fibers illuminates the direction to translate the excellent properties of individual graphene into advanced hierarchical ensembles for promising applications. Especially, graphene oxide (GO) has several advantages, such as good solubility, high content of functionalities, and scalable production with low cost, which improves the chances in assembling 2D sheets into macroscopic multifunctional graphene-based architectures. Here, we prepared strong graphene fibers with giant graphene oxide (GGO) sheets by wet-drawing process. The giant size of the constituent graphene sheets together with their good alignment resulted in a considerable improvement in the mechanical property, flexibility, and electrical conductivity of the resulting graphene fibers. Such multifunctional graphene fibers have promise in versatile applications such as functional textiles, flexible and wearable sensors, and supercapacitor. |
