The production and utilization of hydrogen as a carbon-free energy carrier have attracted as several countries are declaring carbon neutrality in 2050. Accordingly, Korea is presenting a roadmap for the hydrogen economy in 2019 and is devoted to converting the energy system from a carbon economy to a sustainable hydrogen economy. Hydrogen production as technology for energy storage is focused on the green hydrogen using water electrolysis to improve the stability of the power grid with excessive renewable generation. In utilization, the hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and fuel cell generation as an energy conversion technology are main areas. The most important materials in these two fields are an electrochemical catalysts that provide the electrochemical reaction and an electrolyte that can transfer ions. In this lecture, the current status of precious metal catalysts, which can greatly affect the cost, and look at recent research trend to decrease the amount in the unit cells. |
