제목 One-step pretreatment of yellow poplar biomass using peracetic acid to enhance enzymatic digestibility
초록 Peracetic acid, a strong oxidant, can be used to allow mild pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass. Peracetic acid was produced in situ by mixing hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid. Peracetic acid was used to pretreat yellow poplar at the mild temperature of 120 oC with dilute sulfuric acid for short time of 5 min. Compared to dilute acid pretreatment under same conditions, one-step pretreatment was more effective in xylan and lignin removal, and enzymatic digestibility. After one-step pretreatment, 85 and 90% of original xylan and lignin were removed, remaining cellulose enriched solid. The pretreated solid was converted to glucose (84% yield) at a low enzyme loadings. This enzymatic digestibility was 2.5 and 14 times higher than that of dilute acid-pretreated solid and raw yellow poplar. This mild pretreatment was remarkably effective for removing xylan and lignin simultaneously from lignocellulosic biomass, resulting in enhancing enzymatic accessibility of the solid and cellulose conversion.
