Microbial reverse electrodialysis cell (MRC) is an environmental energy system for generating electricity from organic waste stream and salinity differences of seawater and freshwater. Flow rates of two different salinity waters for the reverse electrodialysis (RED) stack affect power generation of MRC, but its effects on power generation and electrochemistry of MRC are poorly understood. To investigate the influence of the flow rates on MRC, different flow rates of high- and low- salinity concentrations were tested. As the flow rate increased, internal resistance, anode resistance, cathode resistance, and RED stack internal resistance and optimal operating external resistance were gradually decreased. And operating voltage, open circuit voltage, maximum current density, and maximum power density were increased. |
