Drag-reduction properties of the Si-acrylate SPC resins containing PEG groups |

The self-polishing copolymers (SPCs) are based on acrylic copolymers which are easily hydrolysable in seawater. Si-acrylate is used in the developments of environmentally friendly antifouling paints and can give the coatings self-smoothing properties. And the poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) has been used as a drag-reduction additive in the pipeline and there were researches of proving the drag-reduction effect of that. In this study, we manufactured Si-acrylate antifouling paints and synthesized Si-acrylate SPC resins containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) groups which is the functional groups of drag-reduction. The SPC structures of the synthesized polymers were confirmed using FT-IR spectroscopy. Also, we checked drag-reduction properties by PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) tests.
