제목 Separation of HMX from HMX-containing polymer bonded explosives
초록 A molecular explosive was separated from binders in polymer bound explosives (PBXs) using their solubility differences in organic solvents. DXC-57 and DXC-59 were used as model PBXs. DXC-57 is composed of HMX and Estane while DXC-59 is composed of HMX, dioctyl adipate (DOA), and HyTemp. When these PBXs were first mixed with solvent A, the solution of HMX, Estane, and DOA was filtered leaving undissolved HyTemp. The injection to solvent B resulted in the precipitation of HMX and Estane leaving DOA dissolved in solvent B. By washing the precipitates with solvent C, HMX with the morphology of β-form and the purity higher than 99% was successfully recovered. Therefore, the solvation followed by precipitation is believed to be an eco-friendly recovery of the molecular explosive alternative to conventional dumping or detonation disposal methods.
