Allyl polycarbonates (Allyl-PC) were synthesized through the interfacial polymerization using bischloroformate and diallyl bisphenol A (DABA), a precursor which was prepared with bisphenol A and allyl bromide. Siloxane was grafted successfully to them by hydrosilylation reaction using Karstedt’s catalyst. Linear bisphenol A polycarbonate was also synthesized. FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) were studied for the characterization of the synthesized compounds. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to observe the surface morphology of polymer films. Contact angle measurement of sessile water drop onto polymer films was also performed. Silicon polycarbonates (Si-PC) and their active precursors (Allyl-PC) were different in thermal properties to that of bisphenol A polycarbonate (BPA-PC). Grafted polymers exhibit lower wettability than those of their precursors and BPA-PC. |
