Biosensor research is driven by the demand in the development of analytical devices for detection, quantification and monitoring of specific chemical and biological species. Among numerous biosensors, the colorimetric transducer system which doesn’t require other auxiliary devices is of special interest due to their potential applications. Herein, we report novel colorimetric biosensor system based on tunable photonic band gap materials termed “photonic gels" which were spontaneously assembled from polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinly pyridine) exhibited stop bands in the visible region of wavelengths. As a demonstration, biotinylated photonic gels were used for sensing streptavidin. The position of stop bands of the biotinylated photonic gels was changed in response to the change of the concentration and the time of streptavidin in soution. We anticipate that this photonic gel biosensor allows simple and convenient way of detecting biological species. |
