Toluene gas adsorption properties using fluorinated activated carbons |

In this study, fluorinated activated carbons (ACs) were prepared using fluorination to improve the adsorption property of toluene gas. The surface properties and pore texture of fluorinated ACs were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and N2 adsorption at 77 K, respectively. The efficiency of toluene gas was investigated by gas chromatography(GC). The breakthrough time of fluorinated ACs was increased about 27% compared with untreated ACs when the toluene gas of 100 ppm was flowed in 300 cm3/min. Fluorinated AC of 0.1 g adsorbents totally adsorbed toluene gas in 100ppm to 100 % during the adsorption time in 19 h. These results can be used as a treatment technology for removal of carcinogen such as toluene. |
