Fabrication of Covalent Organic Framework/ Perfluorinated Polymer Composite Membrane as Ion-Selectivity and Durability for Vanadium Redox Flow Battery |

Vanadium redox Flow battery(VRFB) is evaluated as the most promising energy storage because of its high efficiency and no cross-contamination of the electrolyte than other redox flow batteries. Currently the most commonly used membrane to VRFB is perfluorinated polymer membrane(Nafion). But it has a limit of high vanadium ion permeability. We have developed a composite membrane using the highly dispersed COFs which is a two-dimension structure of porous under 10 Å to improve ion permeability of Nafion. The COFs are utilized as functional additive and also that are employed as barriers to address the vanadium ion crossover due to the blocking effect in Nafion for VRFB application. The COF composite membrane exhibits improved 72% vanadium-ion permeability compared with pristine Nafion. Moreover, the VRFB single test with the COF composite membrane achieves an energy efficiency of 73% and the discharge efficiency shows improved 237% than Nafion115 at current density 200 mA cm-2. |
