In response with the development of recent biotechnologies, demand for improved life quality has been greatly increased. In this regard, we have been investigating the construction of artificial bone structure. Natural bone consists of organic component such as collagen together with inorganic elements such as various trace elements in addition to calcium and phosphorus. As a result, we developed the method to synthesize the bone substitute which is mainly composed of calcium and phosphate. For the further exploration of our method, we attempted to incorporate magnesium ions into the synthetic calcium phosphate crystal. The properties of the magnesium-incorporated calcium phosphate crystal were characterized with FTIR, SEM, and XPS. SEM observation demonstrated the three dimensional structure, which is highly porous. The cellular responses to the crystals were executed to determine the adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation behaviors. |
