Mechanical properties of macroplates fabricated with mesoplates composed of nanobiocomposite microplates from waste seashells |
초록 |
Seashells have long been known for its excellent mechanical properties due to their nano bio composite structure similar to brick-and-mortar walls. According to previous studies, the fracture toughness of seashells are several thousand times superior than any man made materials when the thickness and weight of the seashells are considered. As a result, many countries have funded the research and development of man-made structures mimicking the seashell nano bio composite structure. However, most of the effort have failed primarily because men cannot make nano bio composite structures as accurately as seashells. In this paper, we would like to demonstrate the excellent mechanical properties of macroplates fabricated from mesoplates (fragments of seashells) which in turn is a natural nano bio composite matearial constructed by stacking microplates. |
