Synthesis and characterization of photo-responsive diblock copolymer by ARGET ATRP |

A variety of block copolymers composed of Poly(Ethylene Oxide) and Poly(N-isopropyl Acrylamide-co-Coumarine Styrene) segments were synthesized by ARGET ATRP. FT-IR and NMR were used to investigate the chemical structures of the polymers. Molecular weight and PDI was studied by GPC analysis. The as-synthesized block copolymers are able to form micelles with nanosize in aqueous solution as determined by DLS and TEM analyses. In addition, the stabilization of polymer micelles could be controlled through reversible cross-linking of Coumarin moieties under UV-irradiation. The block copolymer micelles with photo-responsive and water-soluble characteristic are expected to be applied in medical science, especially drug delivery system. |
