Preparation of polarizer film by coating lyotropic chromonic LCs on TAC film: effect of surface treatment conditions |

Recently, there have been many researches on the fabrication of coatable polarizer by using lyotropic chromonic LCs to respond uprising needs for a very thin and flexible polarizer. In general, this type of polarizer was prepared by shear coating and drying of lyotropic chromonic LC mixtures on the glass substrate. The glass substrate however is too rigid to apply to flexible display. In this study, we tried to make a polarizer film by coating on the TAC film instead of a glass substrate to increase its flexibility. First, four different lyotropic chromonic LCs were prepared to make a coating mixture and its composition was optimized by measuring the degree of polarization of fabricated polarizer films. TAC films were surfaced treated with alkaline solution to enhance their surface energy. Optical and surface properties of prepared polarizers were discussed here from the viewpoint of surface treatment conditions. |
