Synthesis of eco-friendly polymer from renewable resources with special properties has been attracted great attention in recent years. Among the renewable resources, cardanol, a meta-substituted phenol from the cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) has great advantages due to its unique properties such as improved flexibility and better processability compare with conventional phenolic resin, heat and electrical resistance, and lower price, etc. Herein, a new eco-friendly polymer was synthesized from a cardanol. Synthesized polymer formed transparent, highly glossy film and it was self-crosslinked by UV light irradiation without adding any toxic metallic crosslinking agents. Surface hardness of the polymer film is higher than that of previously reported poly(cardanol) and cardanol derivatives. Additionally, it showed antibacterial property against E-coli and P. aeruginosa. Conclusively, the new polymer is supposed to be a promising candidate for surface coating material. |
