Formation of microcracks is a critical problem in polymers and polymer composites during their service in structural applications. Self-healing polymers are a class of smart materials that mimic the autonomous healing behavior in biological systems by detecting damage and commencing self-repair mechanisms without the need for external damage detection or manual intervention. In this report, we describe the synthesis of graphene oxide filled polyurethane composite material using bis (4-aminophenyl) disulfide as dynamic crosslinker. Structural and morphological characterizations of the synthesized polyurethane polymer nanocomposites are done using FT-IR, TGA, XRD, SEM and TEM. Finally, the mechanical properties of the synthesized composites are determined, which showed quantative healing efficiency, without the need of any catalyst or external intervention. |
