Spherical YAGG:Ce3+ phosphor particles prepared by solution synthesis |

Recently, some phosphor researches have been focused on the preparation of spherical particles with small size in order to improve efficiency as reducing the amount of light scattering at surface and increasing the packing density. In this sturdy, cerium-doped yttrium aluminum gallium garnet (YAGG:Ce) phosphors were synthesized by solution reaction route using a forced hydrolysis reaction. In the reaction, the solvent was used as a mixed solution of alcohol and water. As a precipitant for precipitation of the metal components of Y, Al, Ga and Ce, excess urea was selected. The crystal structure of the synthesized phosphor was identified by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the morphology was observed by FE-SEM. Also, the photoluminescence properties for the phosphors under UV excitation were investigated. According to the volume ratio of alcohol to water, the morphology of particles was largely influenced. By the optimization process, the spherical precursor particles with submicron diameter were formed at the 5 ratio of the alcohol/water solvent. The single phase of YAGG:Ce phosphor was obtained with calcination at 1100℃. It was confirmed from the measured PL spectra that the spherical YAGG:Ce phosphor emits yellow green light peaked at around 520 nm. |
