The Sonogashira reaction of aryl halides with terminal alkynes was achieved by polymer-supported N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) palladium complex without copper and amine. To prepare this polymer-supported catalyst, poly(imidazoliummethyl styrene)- surface grafted-polystyrene resin was prepared by suspension polymerization utilizing styrene, divinylbenzene and 1-methyl-3-(4-vinylbenzyl)imidazolium hexafluorophosphate as N-heterocyclic carbene precursor, which formed a stable complex with Pd(OAc)2. This polymer-supported NHC-palladium catalyst was shown to be efficient and stable towards leaching and recycling for the copper-free Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. |
