There are several strategies to prepare highly ion conductive polymers. Ionic liquids (ILs) are collecting keen interests as an advanced substituent of electrolyte solution as well as novel solvents. Simple mixing of ILs and polymers sometimes provide excellent ion conductive polymer films. Polymerization of ILs themselves is another potential method. Cationic and anionic monomers, derived from ILs, have been prepared, and they have been homopolymerized or copolymerized to prepare polymer electrolytes. The polymers themselves showed very poor ionic conductivity, but it was improved by introducing suitable spacer between charged site and main chain as well as adding ILs. Design of polymers for selective ion transport will also be mentioned. |
