Hybrids of regenerated silk- based carbon materials and ruthenium oxides for supercapacitors |

Supercapacitors are one of the most promising electrochemical energy storage systems due to rapid charge/discharge, cycle stability and a high power density. This device can provide high power density as a result of fast surface reactions. To high capacitance through fast ion transport, it requires electrode materials with high specific surface area and pores adapted to the size of ions. The incorporation of transition metal oxides into carbon materials has brought about considerable improvement of specific capacitance because of inducing pseudocapacitive behavior. Ruthenium oxide (RuO2) is a promising candidate for supercapacitor electrodes because of high pseudocapacity. In this study, silk based carbon/RuO2 hybrids were fabricated from regenerated silk fibroin by the carbonization with RuCl3 precursor and activation of KOH. The hybrid electrodes exhibited a better electrochemical performance by synergistic effects induced by its EDLC-based and pseudocapacitive performance. |
