In this study, the reinforcing effects of MWCNTs with different morphologies were investigated in the PLLA matrix. The surfaces of the MWCNTs were modified using linear alkyl chains in order to homogeneously disperse the MWCNTs in the polymer matrix. The morphologies of the MWCNTs were determined from numerical values such as the Db, and IG/ID. These numerical values that were related to the morphologies of the MWCNTs had an effect on the PLLA/MWCNT composites. The rod-like MWCNTs with relatively high Db, and IG/ID exhibited superior electrical and thermal properties because of their morphological characteristics such as their more crystallized sp2 carbon structure, high contour length and static bending persistence. Therefore, the rod-like MWCNTs were more advantageous in the application of MWCNT reinforced polymer composites. |
