Graphene is one-atom thick, layered two-dimensional atomic crystal with sp2 carbon atoms in the honeycomb crystal lattice. It has unique physical properties such as high carrier mobility, mechanical strength, elasticity, superior thermal conductivity and Young’s modulus. However, graphene is not easily produced and used in practice due to their limitation such as poor solubility. Therefore, we found the simple and eco-friendly ball-mill method, which easily produced edge-functionalized grapheme nanoplatelets (EFGnPs). Although phosphorus is well known elements with high reactivity, it is difficult to introduce to graphitic framework. In this study, we were able to directly form covalent C-P bond between graphitic carbon (C) and red phosphorus (P). The resultant phosphorus-doped graphene nanoplatelets (PGnP) had the amount of phosphorus as high as 24 wt.%. |
