제목 High-performance thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) reverse osmosis (RO) membrane with octadecylamine-grafted partially unzipped carbon nanotubes (PUCNT)
초록 Thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) membranes with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are known to exhibit higher water permeability than conventional thin-film composite (TFC) membranes. However, due to the poor dispersion stability of CNTs to organic phase, it has always been dispersed only in aqueous phase in oxidized form during the interfacial polymerization (IP). The aim of this study was to increase the dispersion stability of CNTs to the organic solvent by synthesizing octadecylamine-grafted partially unzipped carbon nanotube (PUCNT-C18), and to prepare TFN membrane using PUCNT-C18 as a filler of organic phase to maximize the manifestation of the properties of CNTs. PUCNT-C18 was systematically characterized by FT-IR, XPS, TGA, TEM, and XRD. The TFN with PUCNT-C18 showed much higher pure water flux than TFC, which was comparable to that of TFN with oxidized CNT. These results indicate that controlling the position of nanomaterials could be used to improve the performance of TFN membrane.
