Two types of silicone oil, PDMDPS and PDMS, were added to polycarbonate as low temperature impact modifier and rheological, morphological, mechnical, and thermal changes of PC/silicon oil blends were investigated. Rheological results showed that the elastic modulus and the viscosity modulus decreased with increasing silicone oil content. SEM showed dispersed droplets of silicone oils in PC matrix and size of dispersed phases were enlarged with increasing silicone oil. Impact strength of neat PC at -30℃ was 8 kgf/㎠and it was increased to 52 kgfcm/cm with addition of PDMDPS. Glass transition temperature, initiation temperature of thermal weight loss and heat distortion temperature of PC/silicone oil blends were decreased with increasing the silicone oil. The blending of PC with PDMDPS provided a practical way to devlop a blend of high tensile and impact strength at low temperature with application comprehensive properties. |
