Preparation and Characterization of Radiolytically prepared Anion Exchanging Membranes for Low Temperature Alkaline Fuel Cell Application |

The anion-exchange membranes for alkaline fuel cell application were prepared by a radiation grafting method of poly(vinylbenzyl chloride) onto fluoropolymer films and subsequent quaternerization with amines. ETFE and PFA were used as a base-polymer for the grafting reaction. The influences of the degree of grafting on ion-exchange capacity, ion conductivity, and mechanical property were investigated and the results revealed that anion-exchange capacity and ion conductivity could be easily controlled by controlling the degree of grafting. Also tensile strength of ETFE based membrane were found to be higher than that of the PFA based membrane. |
