제목 Synthesis of Nylon 6/Clay Nanocomposites Containing Poly(ethylene oxide) Random Block via in situ Polymerization
초록 It is reported that, in the nylon 6/clay nanocomposites, the modulus is increased, but impact strength and elongation at break are drastically decreased. To resolve these problems, we tried to synthesize new nanocomposites based on nylon 6 and clay using polyethylene glycol diamine as a soft segment via in situ condensation polymerization. Pure sodium montmorillonite and surface modified montmorillonite with 12-aminododecanoic acid were used as nanoparticle precursors and 6-aminocaproic acid as a polymerization catalyst. The amounts of the clay were 2, 3.5, and 5 wt % in the nanocomposite. Different amounts of soft segment (5, 10 and 15 wt %) were used. The exfoliated clay was confirmed by X-ray diffraction due to the absence of diffraction peak due to a (001) plane of the pristine montmorillonites. Static and dynamic mechanical and thermal properties of these nanocomposites were characterized using tensile test, DMA, and DMA, respectively.
