제목 The effect of fluorination on adsorption of chromium ions from aqueous solutions using activated carbons
초록 Recently Cr (VI) has raised a serious concern due to their high toxicity. Therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the toxic limits of chromium(VI) in waste water to the level of 0.05mg/L. So, in this study, the activated carbons (ACs) are modified by fluorination to improve the adsorption capacity of the Cr (VI) ion in aqueous solution. The adsorbent used in this study is phenol-based ACs (MSP-20, Kansai Coke and Chemicals Company Ltd., Japan). The fluorination of the activated carbon was performed with different fluorine and nitrogen mixture gases at 1 bar (F2:N2=1:9, 2:8, and 3:7) at room temperature. The textural property of the fluorinated ACs was estimated by N2 adsorption at 77 K. As a result, specific surface area and pore volume of fluorinated ACs were increased than those of untreated activated carbons. It is expected that Cr ions adsorption efficiency of ACs is increased due to increasing of specific surface area by fluorination.
