Preparation of hydrophobic perlite composites by silane-treated binder |

In order to develop the high performance thermal insulating materials for perlite insulation, hydrophobic-granted inorganic binders (HIB) were prepared by a silane-treatment method. Effects of silane kind treatment on contact angle and thermal conductivity of HIB/perlite composites were also investigated. The morphologies and structural properties of HIB were measured by SEM and XRD. It was found that the crystallinity of Si particles was increased after silane-treatment. It was also found that the hydrophobicity (contact angle result) of composites enhanced as silane-treatment. This result concludes that the hydrophobicity of the composites can be enhanced according to the microstructure of Si in the HIB/perlite composites. |
