Intense interest in surfactant-mediated synthesis and modification of periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) soon took shape after its discovery in 1999. Unlike surface-functionalized mesoporous silica, the organic moieties in PMO are built directly into the walls of the channels. It is possible to control properties by changing the nature and distribution of the organic groups within the hybrid mesoporous silica. In addition, hollow micro/nanostructured materials have also attracted increasing interest for their many potential applications because of their empty interior. However, very few studies have examined organic-inorganic hybrid materials with hollow structures. Thus, we have interested in working on such organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterials with hollowed mesostructures including PMO and functional hollow silica or polysilsesquioxane (PSQ) particles. In this talk, I would like to present an overview what we have done on the topics for a decade. |
