Poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) and PBS based ionomers (PBSi) were synthesized and were blended with poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHB-HHx) via direct melt compounding. The interaction parameter exhibited the negative values for each blend system. However, the PHB-HHx/PBS3i had more negative interaction parameter than that of PHB-HHx/PBS1i. By FT-IR analysis, it was clear that the sodium metal ion – carbonyl interaction, created between PHB-HHx and PBS ionomer, was much stronger in increase of the ionic group concentration, thereby resulting in the better compatibility. The crystallization rates of the PHB-HHx decreased as the strength of the sodium metal ion –carbonyl interaction is enlarged. However, the constant value of the Avrami exponent indicated that the presence of PBS ionomer could not alter the nucleation mechanism or the geometry of the crystal growth of the PHB-HHx. |
