제목 Characterization of Polyacrylonitrile Pre-stabilized by Electron Beam Irradiation and Its Carbonization
초록 To produce carbon fibers, this study examined the feasibility for polyacrylonitile(PAN) fibers stabilized by thermal treatment after electron beam irradiation(EBI). The effects of EBI and thermal treatments on PAN precursor fiber were verified by FT-IR, DSC, XRD, and SEM. In DSC analysis, EBI- prestabilized PAN fibers could be found that most of the exothermic peaks disappeared after heat treatment. The stabilization index (SI) values for thermal treatment of PAN prestabilized by EBI were evaluated by X-ray diffraction. The SI value of PAN fiber treated at 250 ℃ during 40 min after EBI reached 99.21 % almost 100%. In addition, the tensile strength of this resulting carbon fiber attained about 2.3 GPa and its cross-section presented a clear and brittle shape.
