In this work, the effects of solvent type on and gelation behaviors of PAN solutions in DMF and DMSO were investigated. Relation between PAN and solvent was studied by tracing the dissolution mechanism and chain behaviors in dilute solution. In addition, gel-network growth and rheological characteristics of PAN solutions were investigated from judging the shear, temperature and time dependence of them. Above all, PAN/DMF solutions gave faster dissolution rate during PAN dissolution rate-determining test. In dilute solution, DMSO systems gave higher intrinsic viscosity and closer values in solubility parameters to PAN. In concentrated solution, shear dependence of PAN solutions varied with measurement conditions. In addition, high temperature-sensitivity of PAN solutions exhibited opposite responses that are irreversible gel in high temperature and homogeneous behaviors in low temperature. Further, PAN/DMF system revealed more heterogeneous character under the same conditions. |
