The application of late transition metal complexes as olefin polymerization/oligomerization catalysts has become a topic of special interest in both academics and industry. Nickel complexes were proved as good catalyst for olefin oligomerization. We have developed a series of bimetallic Ni(II) complexes having general formula [(2,6-C5H4N)-C=N-(Z)-N=C-(2,6-C5H4N)][NiBr2]2 {Z = (2,6-C6H2R2)2CH(4-C6H4Y); R = Me, Et, iPr; Y = H, NO2, OCH3}, which serve as good catalysts for oligomerization of propylene. Compared to ethylene, bimetallic catalysts showed 10 fold activities for propylene oligomerization. All catalysts were highly active towards propylene oligomerization exceeding activities 104 g-oligomer/mol-Ni h bar when activated with methylalumoxane or common alkyl aluminums such as ethylaluminum sesquichloride, methylaluminium dichloride and diethylaluminum chloride. |
