Kinetics of transesterification in waste oil to biodiesel fuel as treated in supercritical alcohols |

The study shows the possibility of conducting transesterification of waste oil under supercritical ethanol and methanol. The research is carried out in a batch type reactor from 130oC-350oC in 3 different molar ratios of 1:6, 1:12 and 1:18. In case of supercritical ethanol, maximum conversion is achieved at around 99% at molar ratio of 1:12 & 1:18 at 3300C of reaction temperature. But, during transesterification with supercritical methanol, almost the same conversion is achieved at molar ratio of 1:6 & 1:18 at 350oC. Further, the study also developed a kinetic model of transesterification of waste oil to biodiesel. The activation energy calculated from kinetic analysis by linear regression was agreed well with the published data. |
